Purejoy Parenting Weekly Tip
Flow
Our children have a natural ability to live
in the flow. Watch how quickly they are
able to move from one state of being to
the next. As adults we have a tendency
to hold onto certain states of being, giving
them more power than they actually have.
We get attached to certain habitual states
and when our children flow into uncharted
waters we often resist flowing with them.
My daughter couldn’t find her swim suit
today which sent her into a state of distress….
As she flowed into those choppy waters, I saw
how I entered with her. I perceived her making
it my fault and instead of flowing in the waters,
I resisted and found I added to the distress.
When I caught myself and took a breath, I
entered back into the flow of looking for the
suit instead of focusing on resisting the distress.
I was able to use the energy to enter back into the
flow returning to the task at hand which opened me
to remembering when I had last seen
the suit.
As I moved back into the flow, she joined with
me and together we quickly found the suit. We
entered the choppy waters and yet instead of
getting stuck in them, we moved quickly through
into calmer ones.
Practice: Notice how often you resist the flow of
“what is”, trying to impose your own rhythm on the
natural order of things. When you notice you are
doing this, take a deep breath allowing yourself
to use this energy to support you in entering back
into the natural flow of the moment.
